Terms & Conditions

Customer Consent Declaration

Prior to your pets first groom with Brackens Groom Room there will be an initial consultation to establish your dogs requirements and on their first visit you will be required to complete a ‘New Customer Consent Form’. You will only need to complete this form once as a record card will be created to keep track of the grooming history, any changes to your contact details or your dog health and behaviour. These records are a declaration to state that your dog is fit and healthy and up to date with all vaccinations and by completing them you are agreeing to Brackens Groom Rooms’ terms and conditions which will always be available to view here on this website.

Pet Health

During the grooming process all care will be taken to ensure the health of your pet and an examination of your pet for lumps, bumps and skin conditions will be performed before and during the grooming session.  I will inform you of anything found and advise you if I think a visit to your vet is necessary.  Brackens Groom Room is not liable for any pre-existing conditions and problems found during grooming. If your pet has any medical issues, please let me know so that I can take this into consideration when they visit the Groom Room.  I am happy to use medicated shampoos or apply any products your vet has prescribed.

For certain breeds, I will pluck ears if needed unless the ear canal looks inflamed or infected when I would advise a visit to the vets.

Teeth cleaning and anal gland expression are now deemed to be "veterinary procedures" and therefore, under the Veterinary Surgeons Act, I am prevented from performing these services. No dog will be subjected to stress or discomfort and all dogs will be groomed in accordance with The Animal Welfare Act 2007 adopting the 5 Needs ethos within the Act.

If your pet is unwell (e.g. vomiting, diarrhoea, kennel cough) please let me know as soon as possible before I am due to visit you. This is for their own comfort and the safety of our other canine clients. Also, please advise me of any change in your dog’s health or medical condition upon  my arrival so that we may update your pets file.

Grooming procedures can sometimes be stressful, especially for a senior pet or a pet with health problems, and grooming may expose hidden medical conditions or aggravate existing ones during or after the grooming process. Because senior pets and pets with health problems have a greater chance of injury, these pets will be groomed for cleanliness and comfort only, in styles that will not add to their stress.

De-matting

If I feel that your dogs coat is excessively matted and that de-matting your dog would cause too much stress or discomfort I may recommend a complete clip / shave down. This will be discussed at the time of the appointment but the owner should be aware that irritation may occur from the shaving process, as well as uncovering nicks, cuts or other pre-existing problems.  A ‘Complete Shave Consent Form’ will need to be signed prior to the clip which states that the owner agrees that Brackens Groom Room will not be held liable for any after-grooming effects of matt clipping procedures or pre-existing problems "uncovered" by the clipping process. These pre-existing conditions could be hotspots, sores, parasite infestation, urine and faeces scalding, fungal, bacterial and yeast infections. Heavy matting can also trap moisture near the pet’s skin allowing mould, fungus, or bacteria to grow, revealing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process. If these are detected we would recommend you seek immediate advice from your vet. Please note - by carrying out this procedure your dog’s appearance will dramatically change and their hair will be very close to the skin.

It is my policy to de-matt through shaving a dog’s coat only once in order to make the pet comfortable and to start re-building the coat. De-matting can be painful for your dog and unpleasant for both dog and groomer alike and after the shaving process you should be able to maintain the dog’s coat between grooming appointments. Brackens Groom Room reserves the right to refuse grooming if your dog becomes heavily matted again after the initial shave.

The grooming of elderly dogs is undertaken completely at the owners risk. Grooming may expose underlying skin or health problems which Brackens Groom Room can not be held liable for. Shaved pets are also prone to sunburn and should have sun screen applied frequently or should be kept out of the sun until the hair grows sufficiently to protect the skin.

Fleas

Please note that pets with flea’s cannot be accepted. If your pet has fleas, please treat them prior to visiting the Groom Vroom. Should your pet have an infestation which is discovered after the groom has started a flea surcharge of £10 will apply. (This covers the cost of bathing your dog using an insecticidal shampoo and the thorough cleansing and disinfecting of the trailer post groom).

Forgotten Appointments / Cancellations / Unable to Park

I understand that unforeseen circumstances occur during our busy lives but forgotten appointments may incur a fee of 100% of the standard grooming charge. Should an emergency for you, your family or your pet come up please contact me to discuss. If you know you will be unable to fulfil your appointment please advise me 48hrs prior, allowing me time to fill your slot. Any cancellations made with less than 24 working hours notice (working hours Mon to Fri) may incur a 50% grooming fee charge.

Groomers Safety

My number one priority is your pet’s welfare. I absolutely adore dogs and have many years of pet care experience but I reserve the right to refuse to groom aggressive or difficult pets. The Owner must agree to inform me if their pet is known to be aggressive or has ever bitten anyone.  I am able to handle difficult pets, but only if I am aware and prepared. If a dog is very traumatised or stressed about the grooming process, I will stop the service and recommend you speak with your vet about medication to help calm your pet so they can be groomed safely.

I reserve the right to muzzle your dog, ask you to muzzle your own dog or to refuse to groom it if they represent a danger to me. I also reserve the right to refuse to groom your dog upon meeting them, if I believe there is any risk to me, your dog or any unexpected visitors to Brackens Groom Room.

Helpful Hint

Before you visit the Groom Room please take your dog out to go to the toilet. Though I realise accidents do happen, I like the pets to feel as relaxed as possible during the groom.

Payment

Payment can be made by cash or debit / credit card and regular clients can pay by Direct Deposit. I do not accept cheques. Payment is due at the time of visiting Brackens Groom Room as I do not offer credit.

Data Protection

Client data will be treated in accordance to the data protection principles of the Data Protection Act.  Records will be stored safely in my home, shredded if no longer required and not shared with 3rd parties. Photos of your dog may be used to advertise my work but no information will be used alongside any photo which could identify your dog.
